Heart and Soul:
Mentors who shape, inspire and develop our next generation.

Join us for the annual Centennial Awards, a fun, after-work cocktail reception which is the Princeton Family YMCA's annual major fundraising event.   Each year, local businesses, corporations and individuals are invited to support event and the YMCA mission in the Princeton region.  Click here for a more detailed Fact Sheet.

Created in honor of the YMCA of Princeton's 100th year milestone celebrated in 2008, the Centennial Award honors four to five distinguished individuals in a profession or field of achievement.  A unique feature of the event is that the program is conducted entirely by young people, ages 10 - 18, who are regular participants in YMCA programs.  They serve as the evening's moderators and present the awards. Before the event, each honoree is interviewed by his or her young presenter, and shares his or her personal story.

2010 Honorees

This year, the Centennial Award will be presented to remarkable people who have made a difference in our region by demonstrating outstanding commitment and leadership to mentoring children, teenagers, young adults and/or young professionals, and who consistently demonstrate the YMCA's four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in their actions.

Six honorees have been chosen who exemplify the highest achievements in their field; whose successes have shown not only their talents but a willingness to take risks and to challenge the status quo; and whose hard work and commitment has made our community a better place in which to live.

The honorees for 2010 are:

William F. Johnson - Educator and recently retired principal of John Witherspoon Middle School, Princeton, mentor to generations of students and teachers.
Dr. Jason Klugman - Director, Princeton University Preparatory Program (PUPP), the force behind what is one of the best conceived and executed college preparation and mentoring programs in the area.
Maureen Quinn - Director, ScienceMentors 1 to 1 and MentorPower, the inspiration behind programs that have encouraged hundreds of underachieving students in Trenton, Lawrence and Ewing to aspire to college.
Larry & Fern Spruill - Presidents, Committed and Faithful Princetonians, the leaders behind an entirely volunteer-driven mentoring program that supports, encourages and nurtures boys and girls in middle and high school.
Dr. Nancy Wolff - Professor, Rutgers U. and volunteer leader of several mentoring programs for men and women living in New Jersey's correctional facilities.
